Fast Computer.

Thinking of assembling a fast computer. Either Athlon 64 based or dual processor. Though I am not into gaming or any other serious heavy duty software. "Then Why" you ask. For the kicks, adrenalin and the primordial hunting instincts. And the fact that the prices are so cheap these days.

Bought my home PC for 1200$ 3 years back. AMD 1 GHz, 40 Gig, 256 MB RAM. A new one with triple all these would be half the price. Forget resale value for this one, I will probably have to shell out to junk it!

Moores law. Dammit!

Well I have a 3 ghz processor and all it does is vi, or word at best, so i see no reason why you should wonder if it is worth it. It's always worth it if you want to do that occassional thing that requires the power. And you can always use the disk space on your current PC. You can do what Aseem does keeping 3 pc's in his room, it'll keep your room warm, no point in junking it.

Dude, a fast PC can search for Extra Terrestrial life faster. Man think about ETs decending on St. Louis and taking you out. Plus Neeraj, they probably have convertibles with soft clutches!

Use computers as heaters ... hmmmm.
Hey aseem, why dont u take all these old comps veritas throws away and put them to work searching ETs ? No, seriosuly. Maybe the aliens would then come to you rather than St. Louis (though I seiously doubt they will be riding convertibles). That will be one one freaky sci-fi .. Aliens in Convertibles ! LOL !
