Long Gap.
Ever bought gifts for children?
I got my niece Sanjana and nephew Anhul some gifts on this India trip. I spent a lot of time racking my brains about each and every toy if it was suitable, how it will tickle the child's interest, and keep him/her hooked. I recounted all the stuff the excited parents keep telling me about them and donned my child psychoanalyst hat to buy those gifts.
And did they play with them ? Yes, for an average of 5 SECONDS!!! Next instant it is mercilessly flung into some remote corner and forgotten. The boxes and wrappings fared much much better ! Arghhh !
Anshul got a new bat and ball and he got the idea of cricket. Thats pretty smart as he is just 1.5 yrs. But all he wanted to do was bat. Hw will give you the ball and wait for you to deliver upon which the bat is swung 5 times in either direction. Irrespective of whether contact is made, he will not move and inch and expect/prompt/cry for you to get the ball. Should have taken some videos and posted here..
Anyways, I know what to give them the next time - EMPTY BOXES !
