I just cant take a liking to this game even after being here for close to 6 years. I have tried to watch it friends and take an interest but to no avail.
First of all, there is so little continuity in the game ( unlike say compared to soccer). Secondly it seems to me that this game requires more of brute force than skill. Someone who has a lot of skill in say dodging and catching the ball would still be not able to make it big. One can argue that most games today require a lot more power than the yesteryears eg tennis etc but nevertheless I think the skill ratio is lacking in this game. A small guy like Pele can become a soccer superstar but he would be severley punished in american football ( And I hate to type american before football so that I dont call it just 'football' ).
Thirdly there is too much of attitude display in the game and players are constantly indulging in physical "embraces" even when the game is not in play. Guess thats in the nature of the game.
There are more of these, but right now its time to get back to work..

Well America being the capitalist state that it is I doubt any sport would be played here if you could not make any money out of advertisements. So naturally the discontinuity. I had been to a football game last year did you know they had a commercial timeout there's this guy on the field who gives some sort of a signal and the game just stops while they wait for the commercials to end.
But all that said I think it is a really fun sport and its more about the coaching than it is about the sport on the field itself. I never understood it till i get here and now it is a lot of fun, way better than baseball atleast.

The discontinuity I was talking abt was not actually the commercials but the short length of each run in the game. Every time u advance and are nailed down the whole team rearranges before resuming.. thats irritating , hardly any continous game.
